How it all began...
In early 2020, Eric Fletcher wanted to show Pest Control companies a better way to present their services to customers. He wanted to elevate the Pest Control industry and help Pest Control companies be more profitable, professional, and successful. His initial attempt at building the solution didn’t meet the standard of his vision. He reached out to a colleague in the industry, Darren Hunsaker, that was his go-to whenever he needed help with software related to Pest Control. Darren, then serving on the board of the Arizona Pest Professional Organization (AZPPO), agreed that the industry needed to solve this problem and he knew a software developer that thought outside the box. Nick Routsong was called in to meet with Darren and Eric to discuss the problems they saw in the industry and Nick agreed that they should do something about it.
They began putting the pieces together over the following months and determined what would need to be built. Eric decided to sell his Pest Control company as he transitioned his focus to Smarter Launch. The three dedicated more time and resources to the project as it continued to grow in promise. In 2022 they attended Pest World in Boston and were able to show several companies what they had been building. The response was fantastic and confirmed they were on the right track. They needed someone else on the team to help spread the vision. Darren discussed the project with Cody Smith, a fellow Pest Control company owner, fellow AZPPO board member, and friend. After seeing the software for himself, Cody knew he had to be a part of Smarter Launch as well. Cody joined the team and the four continued to prepare for an initial launch of the software to beta customers in early 2023.
Smarter Launch continues to add new Pest Control companies as customers (and fans) each month. All revenue generated by the company has been invested directly back into developing the product, making it an increasingly valuable tool for the industry to leverage in their sales efforts. Eric Fletcher
Eric has extensive experience in small business startups and acquisitions. For the last 15 years, he has been involved in the Pest Control industry as the owner of Eastern Arizona Exterminating. While owner, he acquired Captains Pest Control, Sunco Pest Control, Title Termite, Payback Pest Control, and Crossman Pest Control. Those companies were sold off in 2020 to devote his efforts to Smarter Launch.
Eric’s other professional experience includes 12 years in the Air Quality industry as owner of Filter Air Service company in Phoenix, AZ. Before entering the Pest Control industry he was Director of Operations at Kaibab Artistic which introduced CNC technology and software to the Framed Art Industry.
Eric has served as co-chair on the advisory board for Arizona’s Office of Pest Management. He also is an active member of the Arizona Pest Professional Organization. He has written articles for PMP magazine covering Bed Bugs and Mosquito Management practices. He produced a mini documentary about the deadly West Nile Virus and ways to educate the public about vector control.
He is an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf.
Darren Hunsaker
Darren Hunsaker started his pest control career as a technician in 2007. In 2010, he started Seville Pest Control before acquiring All Clear Pest Control in 2015.
Darren is known as a FieldRoutes guru and has always enjoyed using technology in new ways not seen in the industry. He shares that knowledge with others to help them reduce their time working in their business and move to growing their businesses.
Darren has devoted his time to the Pest Control industry by serving as a board member of the Arizona Pest Professional Organization starting in 2018. While serving there, he successfully helped launch AZPPO’s Mastermind program, chaired the Education Committee, and helped head the largest Great Western Conference in AZPPO’s history. Darren currently serves as Past President of AZPPO.
Darren grew up in Las Vegas, Nevada and currently lives in Queen Creek, Arizona with his wife Emily and their two children. He serves his church and community and loves helping small business owners reach their greatest potential.
Nick Routsong
Over 17 years ago, Nick joined his brother's security company selling home alarm systems door-to-door. He came to understand the sales process and what helps customers feel secure in choosing a service provider they can trust to do the job right. He's kept his years selling alarms close to heart as he expanded into his true passion of developing software, looking for ways to use technology to aid in the sales process, and in providing technical solutions to an array of different companies. He took this experience into consumer product development and created multiple brands including TapePlus®, Artellius®, and Aqulius®, generating millions of dollars in revenue annually. He and his partners sold the business in 2021.
He has professionally developed software for startups and large corporations in a variety of different sectors including automotive part suppliers, security, pest control, auto manufacturers, property management, and many more. His vast experience has prepared him for his role in leading our software development team. He designs, architects and guides the delivery of innovative solutions in a cohesive manner that allows our software to feel unified. He brings this valuable set of skills to Smarter Launch and to the benefit of your business.
Nick grew up in the midwest, but now calls Mesa, Arizona his home, where he lives with his wife Carissa and their four energetic children. When not typing on the keyboard, Nick attempts to keep up with his kids.
Cody Smith
Cody grew up in the Pest Control industry. As a 2nd Generation PCO, he was selling door-to-door and dragging hoses around houses as a teenager. After receiving an Entrepreneurial Business Degree, started at Brigham Young University and finishing at Arizona State University, he quickly came back to his roots where in 2003 he joined his Father’s Pest Control business, Dynamic Pest Control, growing the business from a one--man show with a couple hundred accounts to multiple technicians and thousands of accounts through sales & strategic acquisitions.
For the last 20 years, Cody has immersed himself in the Pest Control industry, rubbing shoulders with many other PCO's both in Arizona and throughout the United States. For the Last 7 years, he has served on the board for the Arizona Pest Professionals Organization (AZPPO), two of those years serving as the President.
He currently serves on the Arizona Pest Management Advisory Council with the Arizona Department of Agriculture. Cody was born in Phoenix, Arizona and moved out to the East Valley as a teenager. He currently lives in Gilbert, Arizona with his wife Brittney and their 4 children.
